Costa Rica is not a rich country in the way of political influence, gross national product, government infrastructure. Almost all medical providers in Costa Rica are required to practice at the local clinic or hospital level and from there they have private clinics from which they treat paying patients. The difference is that the socialized clinics are free to Costa Rica working and retired citizens and their dependents. The down side to this is a long waiting time and distant travel for certain specialists. These same specialists, Doctors and Dentists will see clientele in their private practice generally on very little notice and give the same world class treatment that has become the norm here in Costa Rica.
